Rock Rivals is an exciting new drama from Shed productions, described as "a worthy successor to Footballer’s Wives", it depicts a fascinating fictional world behind the scenes of a blockbuster TV talent contest. A primetime 8 x 1 hour drama series due to be broadcast in January 2008 on British channel ITV.
We see this world through the eyes of our two judges Mal and Karina – a hugely successful married couple in love but at war. Behind the lights and glamour of the huge Rock Rivals studio set we see the judges plotting in their dressing rooms, the contestants misbehaving in the bootcamp house, and Mal and Karina’s luxury mansion split down the middle as they attempt, unsuccessfully, to live separate lives.
Rock Rivals is a drama expose of an industry like no other. It’s a world where bad behaviour is not only tolerated but encouraged and where image is often more important than talent. It celebrates the fun and unique craziness of the pop machine where the young and naive are propelled from obscurity to celebrity overnight with life changing consequences for all.
Rock Rivals the drama will live on and off the screen. It will be the first drama that really let’s the audience take part and interact. Like its entertainment counterparts – American Idol and X-Factor – it will (for the final show only) allow the audience to vote for the winner. (There will be two versions shot of the final episode). The final winners’ song will be recorded and released as a pop single (double a-side with the two finalists). The drama will also live on the website with live streaming of fictionalised “hidden” cameras in the contestants house. Rock Rivals is definitely a drama – but it’s a drama like no other.
In order to ensure authenticity, Shed Productions has the full co-operation of Simon Cowell and his company Syco. Simon Cowell said of the show: “The idea is brilliant and Shed Productions have a proven track record of making these type of shows very popular – think X Factor meets Dallas”
